Filmscreenings and Discussions: The "green transition" and the costs for the balkans

The EU’s ‚green‘ growth depends on resources such as lithium for the automobile industry. Such raw materials are found in the nearby periphery of post-Yugoslav countries, where mining projects are threatening to damage forests, water, livelihoods. Throughout the Balkans, resistance against extractivist industries is growing. We address this tension with the screening of the documentary Flotacija about a mining region in Serbia and our panel discussion with guests from Serbia and Bosnia-Hercegovina.

Das „grüne“ Wachstum der EU hängt von Ressourcen wie Lithium für die Automobilindustrie ab. Solche Rohstoffe finden sich in der Peripherie der ehemaligen jugoslawischen Länder, wo Bergbauprojekte Wälder, Wasser und Lebensgrundlagen zu zerstören drohen. Auf dem gesamten Balkan wächst der Widerstand gegen die extraktivistische Industrie. Wir thematisieren diese Spannung mit der Vorführung des Dokumentarfilms Flotacija über eine Bergbauregion in Serbien und unserer Podiumsdiskussion mit Gästen aus Serbien und Bosnien-Herzegowina.
